AN ANALYSIS OF THE COVID-19 RISK PROCESS MANAGEMENT OF INTENSIVE CARE HEALTH PERSONNEL

Several problems and the increase in the number of patients in intensive care units due to the Covid-19 pandemic have created negative effects on the staff working in these units in terms of performance, workload and efficiency. Personal anxiety experienced by the staff due to these problems has also affected the risk management in these units in a negative manner. The increase in the number of death has resulted in the decrease in the motivation, and the difficulty of risk management. To this end, the objective of this study is to explore the staff’s individual approaches in the risk process management, and the negative factors affecting the performance and efficiency, and solution recommendations. In the study, a scale has been developed considering the different studies on risk management. This scale has been prepared by determining the problems experienced in the intensive care units, and the aim has been to find out the intensive care unit staff’s applications related to the current and possible risks. While preparing the scale, experts in different fields have been consulted. In line with the received views, the scale has been developed to make it much more qualified and suitable for the topic of the study. Prior to the research, the permission of the institution has been taken. The sample of the study has been determined according to the very risky regions and health institutions due to the covid-19 pandemic. İstanbul, İzmir, Mardin, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Samsun, Sivas, Trabzon and Urfa have been included in the sample. 1462 health personnel participated in the study. The questionnaires have been sent to all of the participants via internet. The questionnaires received from the staff have been transferred to the SPSS 28 programme. A pre-test has been held to get the validity and reliability of the data. After the pre-test, the received alpha cronbach coefficient has been 0.891. As the coefficient is higher than expected, the analysis of the data has been conducted. As for the method of analysis, the factors which cause changes in the professional motivations of the staff are analysed by the factor analysis, and the factors that lead to changes have been analysed by the regression analysis. When the findings and results have been analysed, it is detected that the participants of the study have not been good at the risk management in the covid-19 pandemic process, they do not have sufficient knowledge of risk management in the pandemic process, and for this reason, the ineffective risk management has resulted in negative performance and efficiency. In addition to that, it is seen that most of the participants have experienced social, personal, and familial problems, and have suffered from anxiety, and all these negative issues have affected the job quality and efficiency.
